Box City Visits the Library!
This summer, the Friends of the GCS Library partnered with the Village Improvement Association (VIA) for a special grandparents-and-grandchildren program, Box City.
As part of the adventure, participants toured local businesses and government buildings to discover the many services that help our community thrive. They then put their new knowledge to work by designing their own miniature "Box City" using cardboard boxes and plenty of creativity!
One of their favorite stops was the library, where Lana Doan welcomed the group with a brief introduction to the library's many resources. The children also enjoyed exploring the Children's Library through a fun scavenger hunt before heading home with a small treat bag from the Friends to remember their visit.
We loved being part of this wonderful community program and look forward to welcoming these young readers back to the library soon!

Finished Projects
Local author Bret Cresswell shared stories from his books with the children. This was a partnership between the Friends and VIA.
The Friends participate in the City of Green Cove Springs Parade of Trees each year. Beginning in October each fall, the Friends register for an assigned tree in Spring Park and then spend the next several weeks making and gathering decorations. The theme for the decorated tree is often the topic of the past summer's reading program.

Quilt Raffle
Every year includes many fundraising activities so that support for the library is ongoing and ample. One of the main fundraisers is centered on an annual quilt raffle. One or more of the members work on making a themed quilt that is given away in a raffle contest just before Christmas each year. The quilt is displayed at several community events, including the 3rd Saturday Market in the Park and various local gatherings.
